Fire Calls

July 5, 2005 - Engine 501 and Gastonia Engine 7 were dispatched to a single car MVA at 2703 Beaty Road & Hedgestone Drive with entrapment around 19:52. Upon arrival units found a single car on its driver side with one patient still in the driver seat.  Engine 501 stabilized the vehicle, while Engine 7 assessed the patient. The vehicle was stabilized using cribbing and air struts.  Command decided to remove the roof to gain access to the patient.  Engine 7 deployed 1 3/4" protection line.  The back glass was cut and Lt. Young entered to establish c-spine.  Units on the scene were assisted by Engine 4 and Rescue 3 from Gastonia and Brush 507 from New Hope. Engine 501 supplied a Combi Tool, SB Cutter, saw saws, and glass master to remove the roof.  Patient was removed in about 10 to 15 minutes and GEMS took over patient care.  Patient was transported to Gaston Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Units responded: Engine 501, Brush 507 from New Hope VFD, Engine 7, Engine 4, Rescue 3 from Gastonia Fire, GEMS ALS Unit and Supervisor, and Gastonia City Police.
